The Medical Evaluation Response Initiative Team (MERIT) conducts physical evaluations as needed to assess the health and safety of the child, to identify injuries or trauma, as well as any existing medical conditions. A comprehensive physical exam in a child-friendly environment are conducted by licensed MERIT medical staff who are specially trained to recognize and gently respond to signs of child abuse and neglect.
The MERIT Medical Team is part of the Kane County Child Advocacy Center Multi-Disciplinary Team and provides timely and trauma-informed physical assessment to assess the health and well-being of the child. A Child Victim and Family Advocate accompanies the child and the guardian to support them throughout the entire process.
No child referred for a medical examination will be turned away for an inability to pay.
