Child Abuse Prevention Month

Child Abuse Prevention Month is recognized across the United States in April to inform the public and raise awareness for recognizing, reporting, and preventing child abuse. Every April the KCCAC honors every survivor of abuse with blue pinwheels and blue ribbon.

The Blue Ribbon Campaign began in 1989 when Bonnie Finney tied a blue ribbon on the antenna of her van after losing her grandson to child abuse. This small action increased public awareness of the signs and symptoms of child abuse, as well as child abuse prevention efforts. Today millions of people across America participate to raise awareness and show solidarity with child abuse survivors.

The Kane County Child Advocacy Center stands with all survivors of child abuse. As we celebrate 30 years of protecting children in Kane County, we look forward with hope to a safer future for all children. To every child that has walked through our doors since 1994, and to every child abuse survivor whose abuse went unreported, we acknowledge and honor your incredible strength, courage, and resilience.

2024 marks 30 years of protecting children in Kane County.

In 2023, 735 children received services from the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.

735 children would fill up more than 10 yellow school buses. 735 children is also equivalent to 2 children showing up to your doorstep every day for 1 year.

Please also keep in mind that these are the children whose abuse was REPORTED in Kane County, and do not include the child abuse that goes unreported to DCFS or law enforcement.
